Tool: An instrument that makes it easy to perform a task.
If you open a toolbox, you will have a wire cutter, a hammer, a plier - all there to perform different tasks, similarly your Learner Toolbox needs multiple things.
We are going to cover some of them in this edition.
We are going to breakdown the process of learning into sub components and then look at tools that can help us do these tasks better.
Please note, this has been done with the perspective of an independent self determined learner.
All of the above helps make learning easier. But just as an athlete needs nutrition, exercises and proper rest to be able to practice well. So does a learner!
Things you Ought to Do!
Eat Right: Did you know our brain in general consumes almost 20% of the energy? A lot of it is spent on working our body and keeping us alive and the rest is spent on the cognitive aspects, thinking, doing and learning new things. It is our moral duty to keep our brains healthy and keeping your brain healthy starts with keeping your gut healthy.
Exercise: Daily exercise and a 7-8 hour of good sleep makes your brain better at forming new connections. It supports neuroplasticity. Remember, a well rested brain is a brain ready for learning
Social Interactions: The brain is a social organ and it feeds on positive social interactions so keep your friends close (only the good ones) because that is better for your brain health!
Here is a short video by Dr. Louis Cozolino on the brain being a social organ, check it out:
So there it is, a learner’s toolbox and things you ought to do to become better learners! We will continue to explore this in future newsletters but clubbed with your curriculum, this can create a major positive change in your life!
In the next newsletter, we are going to look at the difference between information and knowledge and how we can bridge this gap.
If you liked this newsletter, share it with others who might like it. Ask them to subscribe.
Keep Learning!
Adios,
